William L. ‘Bill’ Dexter, age 86, of Sheboygan, formerly of Gleason and Bloomville, passed away Friday, December 17, 2021, at Meadow View Heath Services, Sheboygan. Bill was born May 7, 1935, son of the late Bernice Lee. He married Arlene Henrich on January 6, 1955, in Michigan. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2009. Bill served his country in the United States Navy. He enlisted in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1955. One of his biggest accomplishments during his time in the Navy was floating the LST (Landing Ship, Tank) from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to Norfolk, Virginia. Bill worked as a Breeder for the former Midwest Breeders. Bill also ran heavy equipment and sold trucks for a while. Bill and Arlene owned and operated ‘Dexter’s Village Tap’ in Gleason. After selling the bar in 1978, they moved to Bloomville. Bill also ran his business Vid-Craft for many years. He played guitar and sang for many years with various local bands. Many people will remember Bill for his outgoing personality; he was happy, funny, helpful, and was always a gentleman. Bill was a local historian and history buff with his focus being Gleason, Bloomville, Dudley, and Harrison. Bill was a longtime member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason. Survivors include his son, Scott (Tammy) Dexter of Sheboygan; three grandchildren, Isabella, Alexa, and William ‘Will’ Dexter, all of Sheboygan; and several cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Arlene Dexter; mother and stepfather, Bernice and Henry ‘Heiney’ Ratzburg; and infant daughter, Tracy Lynn Dexter. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason. The Rev. Greg Laska will officiate. Burial will take place in Luther Memorial Lutheran Church Cemetery, Town of Russell, with graveside military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday at the church. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
