Steven Wayne Hoefs

Steven W. ‘Steve’ Hoefs, 66, of Merrill, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024, at his home. 

Steve was born October 27, 1957, in Milwaukee, son of Gerald and Sheila (Fildes) Hoefs. He married Theresa ‘Teri’ Pelczynski on July 1, 1978. Steve served his country in the United States Army for eight years. He was stationed in Virginia, Germany, and Colorado. After his honorable discharge, Steve worked as a heavy equipment operator for Canyon Contracting in Maryland. 

Steve enjoyed reading, gardening, flowers, taking walks, fishing, and taking his baby sister to Friday Fish Frys. Steve also enjoyed watching NASCAR and watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers. 

Survivors include his wife, Theresa ‘Teri’ Hoefs of Merrill; children, Mary (James) Carrol of Maryland and Nicholas Hoefs of Oregon; two grandchildren, Chloe Carrol and Curtis Carrol both of Maryland; siblings, Jeff (In Wol) Hoefs of Franklin, WI, Andrea (Michael) Murphy of Texas, Randy Hoefs (Kerrie Clark) of Pewaukee, and Kimberly Hoefs (Doug Leinbach) of Merrill; and former sister-in-law, Sue Wills of Kettle Moraine, WI; and nieces and nephews, Jin Hoefs, Jason Hoefs, Cole Carson, Stephanie Hoefs, Kenzie Roe, and Chris Hoefs (Tiffaney Walton). Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Sheila Hoefs; an infant son, Steven W. Hoefs, Jr.; and nephew, Zachary J. Walter-Hoefs. 

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
