Sally E. Hostvedt

Sally E. Hostvedt, 85, of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the Hospice House in Wausau. Sally was born September 9, 1936, in Appleton, Wisconsin. After graduating from Port Edwards High School, Sally continued her education at Valparaiso University. She married Donald Hostvedt on September 6, 1958, in Port Edwards, Wisconsin. He survives. Together, Sally and Don enjoyed traveling and visited forty-four countries. They went on many cruises, visited all fifty state capitols, and they researched and visited Civil War Battlefields. Visiting Major League Baseball Stadium Ballparks was another of their favorite past times. Sally and Don also enjoyed camping in the summer and taking ski trips in the winter with their family. Sally was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill, where she was involved in the Altar Guild and the church choir. She enjoyed knitting and sewing. Sally and her knitting group received the Jefferson Award for supplying local schools with handmade mittens. She also sewed flags and uniforms for the Merrill Marching Jays. Sally and Don volunteered for many years with the Merrill Band Boosters. She was a founding and active board member of the Merrill Concert Association. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Donald Hostvedt of Merrill; children, Helen Hostvedt (Greg Wood) of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Sarah (Jeff) Monti of Merrill, and Jim (Kim) Hostvedt of Merrill; grandchildren, Leah (Brent) Seavecki of New London, Bella (Dylan) Ruplinger of Merrill, and Olivia Hostvedt of Merrill; great-grandchildren, Tayson, Colton, Lawson, and Walker; and brother-in-law, Thomas Hostvedt of Oshkosh. Sally was preceded in death by her father, Leslie Eichsteadt; mother, Hilda Eichsteadt Karberg; stepfather, Karl Karberg; stepmother, Eleanor Karberg; sister-in-law, Grace Ann Brown; and brother-in-law, Maurice Brown. The funeral service for Sally will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. David Szeto will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 11th at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and again after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 12th at the church.
