Rudolf ‘Rudi’ Neubauer, 85, of Merrill, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024, at his home under the care of his family and Compassus Hospice.
Rudi was born April 7, 1939, in Munich, Germany, to Ludwig and Rosa (Deutschenbaur) Neubauer. Rudi arrived in the United States in 1959. On August 9,1962, he enlisted in the United States Army on August 9, 1962. During his time in the Army, he received the Code of Good Conduct Medal, and he was also a member of the ski team. Rudi was honorably discharged on July 31, 1964. Rudi married Sally Ann Krueger of July 17, 1965, at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. Together, they had two daughters, Tonya Ann and Tiffany Sue.
Rudi worked at Van’s Packing in Merrill. In 1970, he started working as a Fire Fighter and EMT with the Merrill Fire Department. He worked with MFD for twenty-three years and was one of the three that started the ambulance service in 1970. Rudi also worked for Quality Furnace in Merrill. Later, he became a member of the Friends of the Council Grounds where he helped with cutting wood for the campers at the park.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Ann Neubauer of Merrill; daughters, Tonya Ann (Mike) Roth of Maumelle, AR and Tiffany Sue (Todd) Lemanski of Oregon, WI; five grandchildren, Noah Roth, Samuel Roth, Sarah (JaVaughn) Iverson, Josiah Roth, and Daniel Roth; and four great-grandchildren. Rudi was preceded in death by his parents, Ludwig and Rosa Neubauer; and siblings, Ludwig Neubauer, Frances Rein, and Erika Richter.
The memorial service for Rudi will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 5, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. David Szeto will officiate. Inurnment will take place at St. Francis Xavier Veteran’s Memorial with graveside military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 5, 2024, at church. Taylor-Stine Funeral & Cremation, Merrill, is assisting the family.
