Regina E. “Doody,” née Gorsegner, Broeking, 96, formerly of Greendale Drive in the Town of Corning, Merrill, WI, passed away March 13, 2024, at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill.
Regina was born November 30, 1927, to Gustav and Ella, née Hansen, Gorsegner on the family farm in the Town of Reseburg in Clark County. She was baptized January 1928, by Rev. A. C. Stapel in the Lutheran parsonage in Thorp. She was confirmed August 1940, by Rev F. H. Sprengler at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Thorp.
Directly after graduation from Thorp High School in 1944, she began working in the Home Office of the Thorp Finance Corporation. Later she worked in the office of Blue Moon Foods, Inc. in Thorp.
On May 31, 1947, she married Carl Broeking at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Town of Thorp and later lived in Wausau before purchasing a farm in the Town of Corning in 1955. Regina began working in Audit Processing at Wausau Insurance Companies in 1977; then in Records, until she retired in 1993.
Regina was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church - Town of Berlin where she had served as secretary and treasurer of the Ladies’ Aid. She also volunteered her time as assistant to the church secretary for 18 years, also at Trinity Preschool and at the Dime and Dollar Store in Merrill.
An avid nature lover, she created a haven of peace in her beautiful, park-like yard where she watched sunrises and sunsets and the birds and deer. She was a crossword enthusiast and also enjoyed word jumbles, watching old westerns, listening to polkas and big band music of the 40’s. Regina survived many operations, including fully recovering from both colon and breast cancer and remained cancer free. Sadly, a stroke in November 2020 disabled her.
She was passionate about keeping her family together and held gatherings at her home whenever possible. She enjoyed a vast network of good friends whom she appreciated greatly, and she always looked forward to the regular visits with her ladies' group from Wausau Insurance Co. and the friends she had made while in Physical Rehab.
