Phyllis A. Frederick, 92, of Merrill, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Aspirus Merrill Hospital.
Phyllis was born April 8, 1931, in Lincoln County, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Ella Mosser. Phyllis was raised by her mother and her stepfather, John Hopp. Phyllis married Elmer Frederick on June 19, 1948. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1995. Phyllis worked as a supervisor at Hanson Glove in Merrill. She then took a job with Anson Gilkey and was their first female foreman. Phyllis eventually retired from W.C.A. In retirement, she worked in the deli at Red Owl.
Phyllis was a classy, kind and giving person who loved and cared for her family and friends. She was ambitious and never shied away from taking on a project, always lending a helping hand. If someone told her she couldn’t do something her motto was “watch me.” She did everything from carpentry to cooking, baking, embroidery and sewing. She loved working in her flower gardens and was meticulous about her yard. While outside, she loved watching and feeding the birds. She enjoyed a good time with family and friends dressing up for mock weddings and Halloween and cheering on the Brewers and Packers. Her sense of humor never left her even at the end.
Survivors include her children, Linda Weege of Merrill and Jack (Kathy) Frederick of Wausau; very special friend, Fred Will of Merrill; grandchildren, Tim (Mandy) Frederick of Weston, Heather (Andy) Klade of Menomonie, and Tara (Willy) Schelbert of Merrill; great grandchildren, Maddie Frederick, Elijah Schelbert, and Ethan Schelbert; sisters, Lorraine Poi of Wausau, Vernette (Louis) Heuser of Tomahawk, and Darlene (Joseph) Wimmer of Merrill; brothers, Roger Hopp of Merrill and Alan Rajek of Campbellsport; and special friend, Maxine Plamann of Merrill.
