Peter J. Lokemoen, 76, of Merrill, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 4, 2024, in Merrill.
Pete was born on August 26, 1947, in Merrill to the late Olaf “Ole” Lokemoen, and Adeline A. Plautz Lokemoen. On April 24, 1971, he married Karla Kobs; she survives.
He was employed by the city of Merrill as an engineer for over 36 years; his attention to detail can be found in projects throughout the city and his legacy will be a part of Merrill's infrastructure for years to come. Much like his father and brothers, Pete was proud of his time playing in the Merrill City Band, having reached the milestone of 52 years when he retired.
He enjoyed biking, racquetball, and swimming with his grandson. Pete also served on the board of directors of Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery, currently as vice-president. He previously had been elected to the Merrill City Council and more recently was appointed to the City Plan Commission.
Survivors include his wife Karla, his sons Andy (Lindsay) of Stevens Point and Matthew (Amanda) of Moab, UT, his grandchildren, Olen and Emmy, his brothers Jim (Kris) Lokemoen and Dick (Becky) Lokemoen both of Merrill, his niece Jennifer Peterson and his nephew Brad Normand. He is further survived by his brothers in law, Paul (Connie) Kobs of Iola and Walt (Roxy) Kobs of Stevens Point.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family graveside services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery, the Rev. Justin Smoot of Our Saviours Lutheran Church will officiate, burial will follow the service at Merrill Memorial Park.
The Taylor Stine Funeral Home is serving the family.
