Mary A. Urban, age 86, passed away Friday, June 18, 2021, at Bell Tower Residence under the care of Bell Tower staff and Compassus Hospice. Mary was born October 17, 1934, in Highmore, South Dakota, daughter of the late Victor and Edith (Olson) Duchene. Mary moved to Merrill in 1967. She married Edwin B. Urban on December 22, 1975, in Merrill. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1998. Mary worked as a legal secretary for Russell Law Office, Merrill, and retired on January 1, 1997. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. Mary enjoyed square dancing, reading, and being outdoors. She also traveled extensively having visited all 50 states and several countries including, China, Greece, and Egypt. Mary was a member of the local Red Hatters group ‘Hattitudes II’. She very much enjoyed the friends she made in this group. Mary is survived by her three daughters, Peggy Koepsel of Rippon, Linda Mulford of Merrill, and Susan (Dor) Harris of Merrill; three stepchildren, Debra (Gerald) Okrzesik of Wausau, Correen (Don) Wendorf of Merrill, and Craig (Marie) Urban of Chuluota, Florida; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin ‘Ed’ Urban; her parents, Victor and Edith Duchene; two sons-in-law, Ronald Mulford and David Koepsel; and her former spouse and the father of her children, Zack Presley. The funeral service for Mary will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Patricia Schutz will officiate. Burial will take place in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Thursday at church. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
