Marlyn J. ‘Marlie’ Helmstadter, 84, of Merrill, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. Marlie was born June 27, 1933, in Tomahawk, daughter of the late Arnie and Helen (Bame) Pearson. She married William J. Helmstadter on August 22, 1953. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2004. Marlie was a 1951 graduate of Tomahawk High School. In 1957, Marlie and her late husband Bill started Helmstadter Jewelers in Merrill, which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1995. Marlie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Visions Christian Bible College and Seminary and became an ordained pastor. Marlie was a member of New Testament Church, Merrill, where she taught bible classes. Marlie was a singer and songwriter and played the piano and saxophone. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and loved dogs. Survivors include her children, Joni Ziegler (Dennis Overpeck) of Grand Junction, Colorado, Terry Boyd of Wausau, Jan (Jeremy) Thompson of Merrill and Kurt (Joyce) Helmstadter of Merrill; six grandchildren, Kristen Boyd, Nicole Boyd, Cody Boyd, Katie Helmstadter, Kyle Helmstadter and Caleb Thompson; and three great-grandchildren, Reece Ament, Trayton Ament and Arabella Brown. Marlie was preceded in death by her husband, William Helmstadter; parents, Arnie and Helen Pearson; and her brothers, Jack Pearson and Don Pearson. The funeral service for Marlie will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 27, 2018, at New Testament Church, Merrill. Pastor William Hohman will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery, town of Scott, Lincoln County. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill and after 9:30 AM Friday at the church. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family.
