Marlene A. Saal, 84, of Merrill, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020. Marlene was born June 16, 1936, in Merrill, daughter of the late Elmer and Ethel (Wery) Boettcher. She married Charles Saal on June 28, 1958, in Tomahawk. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1994. Marlene had worked at the former Hanson Glove, Merrill. She then worked for many years at Weinbrenner Shoe Company, Merrill. Marlene and Charlie owned and operated the former ‘Eastside Car Wash’. Marlene was a soft spoken, private woman who was devoted to her husband and had a very close relationship with her parents. She loved cats and also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and taking rides with her husband. Marlene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Survivors include her niece and nephews, Michael (Tammy) Saal, David (Sheila) Saal, Steven Saal, and Mary Jo (Dave) Beyer all of Merrill, and Frank (Teresa) Saal of Hazelhurst; and several other relatives including her cousin, Mary Zebik of Merrill. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Saal; parents, Elmer and Ethel Boettcher; nephew, Scott Saal; close companion, Robert Beckman; and several other family members. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
