93 years ago, on April 16, a little girl was born at a farm atop a hill, just off Duginski Road. Her parents, Peter and Katherine (Doheney) Duginske, named her "Margaret Ann", one of 9 children. She married Philip D. English in 1949, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 1985. Her sisters-in-law, Lenore English and Marge English, survive. Margaret Ann's children include a daughter, LIN English Kautza (Greg), Merrill, and son, Philip G English (Lydia), Salem, WI. Margaret had five grandchildren: Mollie Kautza Elsmark (Erik), Hermance, Switzerland, Andy Kautza (Jes), Springbrook, WI, Nick English (Kelsie), Janesville, WI, Jackie English, Round Lake, IL. and Missi Soliz Mihalopoulos (George), Austin, TX. And, she had four little great grandsons, Mads and Luka Elsmark, Jax and Cam Kautza ...Margaret Ann loved and raised Yorkshire Terriers. She also loved Collies, which she showed at many dog shows. ...Margaret was an Artist and loved the Arts. In 1968, she and seven others, started the Merrill Area Artists Club. They had an Art Store in the Harkner Building across from the Post Office. She was known for her delicate Corn Husk Dolls, and for designing and creating the Merrill School District LOGO, the design with the Bluejay Head surrounded by a circle of 11 stars. This LOGO, and its unique meaning, was her most treasured artistic achievement and she was proud leaving it as part of her legacy to the Merrill School District. She, with the help of Skipper Schulz, was the first to paint her LOGO in the center of the field, at the present Jay Stadium. Her LOGO was dedicated along with the new Jay Stadium renovation in 2016, and can be seen on the walkway as you enter the mezzanine at Jay Stadium.
