Lyle E. Gast, 92, of Weston, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Pride TLC, Weston.
Lyle was born December 27, 1930, in Birnamwood, son of the late Herman and Caroline (Wickman) Gast. He married Delores Hoff on June 23, 1951, at the former Zion Lutheran Church in the Village of Maine, Marathon County. They recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. She survives. Lyle was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Village of Maine.
Lyle worked at Anderson Brothers & Johnson for 48 years. He liked tinkering and was ingenious. He built a small tractor, scooter and a camper that his family used on a trip to Yellowstone National Park. Lyle enjoyed camping and for 15 years, he and Delores traveled to Palmetto, Florida with their 5th wheel camper. He also enjoyed fishing and going on several Canadian fishing trips a year. In his earlier years, he enjoyed deer hunting. Lyle also hunted squirrels and rabbits with his hunting dogs, Penny, Pepper, and Sporty. He also enjoyed snowmobiling.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Gast of Weston; daughters, Linda (Daniel) Meschefske and Donna Mae (Norbert) Normand both of Wausau; sons, Lyle (Cheryl) Gast, Jr. and Larry (Mary) Gast both of Wausau; two grandchildren, Bonnie Dean of Wausau and Allen (Wendy) Gast of Neillsville; four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Anna Dean and Bryce and Caleb Gast; sister, Shirley Johnson (Norm Bailey) of Pawcatuck, Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Caroline Gast; and brother and sister-in-law, Herman Gast Jr. and Audrey Gast.
The memorial service for Lyle will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 23, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church, Village of Maine. Rev. Donald Love will preside. The burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Village of Maine. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 23, 2023.
