James A. Karau, 77, of the Town of Schley, Lincoln County, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at his home under the care of his family and hospice services. Jim was born June 15, 1942 in Merrill, son of the late Adolph and Gertrude Karau. He married Judith A. Mosser on June 18, 1966 in Gleason. She survives. Jim had been a sales representative/truck driver for Standard Oil, A.H. Rusch Distributing, and Remington Oil, retiring in 2007. Jim honorably served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1963 and was stationed stateside. Jim attended the Honest John Nuclear Warhead Assembly Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and attained the rank of Sergeant. Jim and his company were on high alert during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and all were able to meet President Kennedy. Jim was always there to help someone. He was also a great mechanic. Jim enjoyed Johnny Cash and Charlie Pride music; deer and coon hunting; being outdoors cutting firewood and enjoying nature; and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Judith Karau, Merrill; three sons, Steven (Kerrie) Karau, Colby, Douglas (Cindy) Karau, Merrill and Jeffrey (Cindy) Karau,Gleason; four grandchildren, Jonah, Megan, Ethan and Melissa; four step grandchildren, Eric, Matthew, Axle and Sam; two great-grandchildren, Abel and Kashton; two step great-grandchildren, Faith and Colin; four sisters, Marna, Audrey (Dale, Sr.) Rasmussen, Annette Klade and Bonnie (Ron) Polak all of Merrill; and two brothers, Adolph Ronald (Candy) Karau, Rockford, Illinois and Vernon (Beatrice) Karau, Arizona. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Karau; and brother-in-law, Rowe Klade. The Memorial Service for James A. Karau will begin at 12:00 P.M., Noon, Monday, June 24, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Lay Minister Mr. Robert Schneider will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery Veterans Memorial Section, Merrill. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Monday at the church. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.
