Helen M. Bruessow, 91, of Merrill, formerly of the Town of Schley, Lincoln County, died Friday, September 2, 2016, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. Helen was born September 18, 1924, in the Town of Schley, daughter of the late Harold and Ella (Klayum) Krahn. She married Paul F. ‘Paulie’ Bruessow on September 18, 1943. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1998. Helen and Paulie dairy farmed on Highway C in the Town of Schley. Helen was a homemaker and a farmwife. Helen was a lifelong member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason. Helen enjoyed listening to polka music especially the Sunday morning show on the radio. After retirement, Helen and Paulie spent a lot of time square dancing and traveling. Helen liked tending to her flower gardens, picking berries, gardening, and canning. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafting, making wood lawn ornament, fishing, snowmobiling, and watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. Survivors include her son, Thomas ‘Tom’ Bruessow of Panama City Beach, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Krahn of Merrill and Audrey Krahn of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Paul ‘Paulie’ Bruessow; her parents, Harold and Ella Krahn; an infant son, Robert Bruessow; her twin sister, Harriet Hodgson; her brothers, Milton Krahn and Robert Krahn; a brother-in-law, Vernon Hodgson; and a nephew, Lenny Hodgson. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Gleason. Rev. Greg Laska will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
