Edward G. ‘Ed’ Chartier, 83, of Merrill, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at his home under the care of his loving family and hospice services. Ed was born April 24, 1936 in Wausau, son of the late Leroy and Irene (Woller) Chartier. He married Diane Paul on November 3, 1956. She survives. Ed and his wife were the owners and operators of the former Lincoln Realty in Merrill. Ed was a former member of the board of directors for M&I Bank, Merrill. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, spending time at his cottage in the Minocqua area, playing cards, having coffee each morning with his group of friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. Ed always considered it a privilege to live and work in the Merrill community. Ed honorably served in the U.S. Army and had been stationed in Germany. Ed is survived by his wife Diane Chartier, Merrill; five children, Julie Chartier, Missy Chartier, Tracy Chartier, David (Colleen) Chartier, all of Merrill, and Nicole (Richard, Jr. ) DuBois, Marco Island, FL; 14 grandchildren, Lee, Alex, Nick, Tori, Luka, Matthew (fiancé, Roseanna), Allison, Ethan, Karlie, Lee, Bradley, Hilliary, Emma, and Jordan; 12 great grandchildren; and two siblings, Lou Ann Chartier, Eau Claire, and Randy Chartier, Merrill. Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Chartier, and an infant sister. A Memorial Service for Ed will begin at 4:00 PM Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Christ United Methodist Church, Merrill. The Rev. Laverne Larson will officiate. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date in Merrill Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday at the church.
