Dr. John R. Scioli

May 11, 1944 — May 4, 2021

Dr. John R. Scioli, Sr. of Gleason, passed away peacefully on May, 4, 2021 at his home while under the loving care of his wife and family. John was born May 11, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Thomas and Rose Scioli. John was an educator, multilinguist and accomplished musician. One could often hear John playing Brahms, Bach, Chopin and more on his treasured grand piano. John dedicated his life to the service and education of others. He taught high school and college students in subjects ranging from German and Latin to Chemistry. John tutored many individuals, including English as a Second Language business professionals. From helping recovering addicts obtain GEDs to taking the coat off his back for a homeless individual, John lived as a devout Catholic. He always had a rosary nearby or prayer card handy and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Gleason. On many Thanksgivings, John and his children would volunteer at soup kitchens and give alms whenever able. John was an incredibly generous person as he valued relationships over goods or money. Most of all, John enjoyed sharing his life with Kathy (spouse), praising his children and doting on his grandchildren. John, “Poppy”, endlessly spoiled his grandchildren, whether it was through his unconditional love or slipping them cash upon seeing them. John deeply loved his family, and his greatest joy was watching, with his wife, his children and grandchildren grow. John is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Kathleen; five children, John Scioli, Thomas (Erin) Scioli, Rose Scioli (Matt Markow), Kathleen Scioli (Tony Yacobacci) of Pennsylvania and Laura (James) Huggins of Gleason; grandchildren, Alessandro, Michael, Elizabeth, Sofia, Liam, and Loretta; and his siblings, Thomas (Jane) Scioli and Sandra Kleinert. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family.
