Dennis W. ‘Denny’ Ebner, 73, of Merrill, peacefully passed away at his home under the care of his loving daughters and Compassus Hospice on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Denny was born January 15, 1951, in La Crosse, WI, the son of Walter ‘Walt’ and Patricia ‘Pat’ (Sutton) Ebner. Denny grew up in Wausau and graduated from Wausau East High School and was active in many sports. He completed welding training at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau. Denny married his best friend, Sandra ‘Sandy’ Baumann on October 21, 1972, in Merrill. He also served his country in the United States Army Reserves. Denny began his career as a welder at Marmet Corporation in Wausau. During his career, he also worked at Goetsch’s Welding and retired from Northern Wire in Merrill.
Denny was a well-known taxidermist in the Merrill and surrounding areas. For 32 years, he operated ‘Denny’s Taxidermy’ and shared his skill with many avid fishermen and hunters. He enjoyed both rifle and bow hunting and the great outdoors. In his later years after retirement, he enjoyed using his crossbow. Denny and Sandy enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially at their favorite fishing holes. While the girls were growing up, the family would take annual vacations to Pitlik’s Resort in Eagle River. Denny loved being busy and enjoyed taking care of his house and yard. He cherished spending time with his family and friends and will be remembered for his comical personality.
Denny is survived by two daughters, Michelle Skidmore, Wausau and Angela (John) Chatham, Cedar Grove, TN; grandson, Justin Feck of Wausau; granddaughter, Cassandra Feck of Wausau; and granddaughter, Tyler Chatham (fiancé Hunter Walker) of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Penny (Alan) Will of Wausau; nephew, Chad (Katie) Will of Wausau; and niece, Ami Johnson of Wausau. He lost the love of his life, Sandy, on August 31, 2020, he was also preceded in death by his parents.
Per Denny’s wishes, a private family service will be held to lay him and his wife to rest in union at a later date. Taylor-Stine Funeral & Cremation, Merrill is assisting the family.
