Rosemary E. Smith

Rosemary E. Smith, 92, of Merrill, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.

Rosemary was born June 8, 1931, in Mantador, North Dakota, daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Thiel) Reiland. She married Wayne H. Smith on October 10, 1953, in California. Throughout their marriage, Rosemary and Wayne lived in several different states including California, Tennessee, Louisiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. After moving to Wisconsin, Rosemary worked as a clerk at the former Taffy’s Hallmark in Merrill. Rosemary enjoyed reading, crafting, attending craft shows, and visiting with friends. Rosemary was a very caring wife, mother, and friend.

Rosemary is survived by her husband of over seventy years, Wayne H. Smith of Merrill; daughter, Lisa (Andrew) Carlson of Merrill; son, Michael H. (Carol) Smith of La Quinta, California; four step great-grandchildren, Andy, Breana, Ricky, and Michael; many nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Marsha and Steve Skogen and their family. Also surviving is Alex Martinez, the foreign exchange student Rosemary and Wayne hosted from 1974 to 1976 who became an incredibly special part of their family. Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elizabeth Reiland; and her siblings, Wilfrid Reiland, Margaret (Norbert) Poss, Arnold (Joyce) Reiland, and Gilbert (Elizabeth) Reiland.

The memorial mass will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Holy Cross Chapel in Bell Tower Residence, Merrill. Father Mariadas Vallabhaneni and Chaplain John Bourke will preside. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Holy Cross Chapel. Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family.
