Robert D. ‘Bob’ Valliere, 72, of Gleason, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, February 5, 2024.
Bob was born January 27, 1952, in Chicago, son of Hiram and Florence (Schwartz) Valliere. When he was about two years old, Bob and his family moved to Lac du Flambeau. He grew up on the reservation and attended the local schools graduating from high school in 1970. He was a proud member of the Oneida Nation.
Bob attended the radiology school at Marshfield Hospital from 1970 to 1972. He married Susan Ruder on September 9, 1972, in Marshfield. Bob enlisted in the United States Navy on February 15, 1973, and was honorably discharged on February 14, 1977. During his time in the Navy, he served as a Corpsman and was stationed at Naval Station Great Lakes.
Bob and Sue lived in Illinois for twelve years. He worked at Victory Hospital and Lake Forest Hospital as a radiologic technologist with a specialty in C.T. imaging. Bob and his family moved to Merrill in 1989 and he worked in the X-Ray department at Good Samaritan Health Center. After 23 years at Good Sam, he retired in 2012.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his first love was bow hunting. He harvested several Pope and Young trophy bucks bow hunting. He was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed going to the games.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved taking them for rides on the boat, 4-wheeler, snowmobile, and side by side.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sue Valliere of Gleason; sons, Jacob (Katie) Valliere of Merrill and Matthew (Allicia) Valliere of Wausau; granddaughters, Mercede (Mike) Schreiber of Merrill, Charleze Valliere (Cody Jablonski) of Merrill, Suzy Valliere of Wausau, and Lilly Valliere of Wausau; great-grandchildren, Croix, Violet, Ila, and Mikey; brothers, Richard Valliere and Greg (Jeanne) Valliere of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Lynn Valliere of Waunakee; his longtime hunting buddy, Geoff (Jeanne Ruder) Burt; and his many Ruder in-laws and their families. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Florence Valliere; and brother, Charles ‘Chuck’ Valliere.
A celebration of life will take place from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Bierman Building in Merrill.
